Getting There

  • Walking

    From the Nelson i-SITE Visitor Centre located at 74 Trafalgar Street, head east on Trafalgar Street towards Hardy Street. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Bridge Street. Turn left onto Bridge Street and continue walking until you reach the Maitai River. Follow the river path along the Maitai Walkway which will lead you through scenic views. After about 20 minutes, you will reach the entrance to the Centre of New Zealand Monument at the top of the hill.

  • Cycling

    Starting at the Nelson i-SITE Visitor Centre, rent a bike from a nearby rental service. From the i-SITE, head east on Trafalgar Street and turn left onto Bridge Street. Follow Bridge Street until you reach the Maitai River, then join the Maitai Walkway. Cycle along the river path for approximately 2 kilometers. The path will lead you directly to the Centre of New Zealand Monument, where you'll find a small uphill trail to the monument itself.

    Take bus route 1 from the Nelson Bus Station towards the Maitai area. Get off at the Maitai Road stop. From there, walk along Maitai Road, and you will see signs directing you to the Centre of New Zealand Monument.
