From the Rotorua city center, walk to the Rotorua Bus Station located on Amohau Street. Catch the bus heading towards the Lakes area. Make sure to ask the driver for the stop closest to Lake Ōkareka. Once you arrive, walk towards the lake following the signs, which should take around 15 minutes.

If you prefer cycling, rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Rotorua. Head south on Fenton Street, then take a left on to Lake Road. Follow Lake Road until you reach the intersection with Ōkareka Road. Turn right and continue straight until you reach Lake Ōkareka. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes.

If you are up for a walk, start at the Rotorua Information Centre on Fenton Street. Walk towards Lake Road and follow it south. Continue on Lake Road until you reach the intersection with Ōkareka Road. Turn right, and you will arrive at Lake Ōkareka in about an hour and a half.

For a quick and convenient option, you can book a taxi or use a rideshare app from anywhere in Rotorua. Simply enter 'Lake Ōkareka' as your destination, and the driver will take you directly to the lake. The journey should take around 15-20 minutes depending on traffic.
