Start at the Rotorua i-SITE Visitor Information Centre located at 1167 Fenton Street, Rotorua. From there, catch the 'Rotorua to Whakarewarewa' bus service. Make sure to check the current bus schedule online or at the i-SITE. You will need to purchase a ticket from the bus driver. The journey will take approximately 15 minutes. Get off at the stop closest to Whakarewarewa, which is the village known for its geothermal activity.

Walking
After getting off at Whakarewarewa, follow the signs to the Whakarewarewa Thermal Village. Keep walking straight until you reach the entrance of the village. Once inside, ask locals for directions to Lake Waikaukau, as it is a short walk from the village. The walk will take you through scenic areas, and you will be able to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Rotorua.

Bicycle Rental
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from various rental shops in Rotorua. After renting, head towards Te Ngae Road (State Highway 30) and cycle until you reach the Whakarewarewa area. Follow the same directions as above towards the thermal village and then ask locals for the exact path to Lake Waikaukau.
