Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, begin your journey in Nelson, Tasman. Head south on State Highway 6 for approximately 100 kilometers. Follow the signs to Nelson Lakes National Park. Once you reach the park entrance, continue on Wairau-Hanmer Springs Hydro Road. Look for the signs directing you toward Angelus Hut. There is a parking area available, but be aware that a parking fee may apply. Make sure to check for any applicable fees at the entrance.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take a bus from Nelson to St. Arnaud. The bus service is provided by Nelson Airport and usually operates several times a day. Once you arrive at St. Arnaud, you can either walk to the National Park entrance or take a taxi to the Wairau-Hanmer Springs Hydro Road. From there, follow the road signs to Angelus Hut. Please note that you may need to schedule your return trip ahead of time as bus services can be limited.

• Hiking

  After arriving at the parking area or the nearest drop-off point, you will need to hike to Angelus Hut. The hiking trail begins at the car park and is approximately a 3-4 hour trek depending on your fitness level. The trail is well-marked, but ensure you have appropriate hiking gear and water. It is also advisable to check the weather conditions before your hike as the terrain can become challenging in adverse weather.
