    If you are in Taupo town center, start at the Taupo i-SITE Visitor Information Centre located at 30 Tongariro Street. From there, head south on Tongariro Street towards the lakefront. Continue straight until you reach the lakefront path. Follow the path along the lake, enjoying the views. After about 1.5 kilometers, you will reach the end of the lakefront path. At the end, turn right onto Aratiatia Road and walk for approximately 10 minutes. You will see signs directing you to the Aratiatia Rapids tracks. Follow these signs to reach the viewing area.

  • Cycling

    Begin at the Taupo i-SITE Visitor Information Centre at 30 Tongariro Street. Rent a bike from a local rental shop nearby. Head south on Tongariro Street towards the lakefront and follow the lakeside path, which is well-marked for cyclists. Continue cycling for about 2 kilometers until you reach the end of the lakefront path. Turn right onto Aratiatia Road and follow this road for about 10 minutes. Look for signage indicating the Aratiatia Rapids tracks, and follow these signs to the viewing area.

  • Public Transport

    From Taupo town center, walk to the nearest bus stop at 30 Tongariro Street. Take the bus service that goes towards Rotorua and ask the driver to drop you off at the Aratiatia Rapids stop. The bus ride will take approximately 20-30 minutes. After getting off, follow the signs to the Aratiatia Rapids tracks, which will guide you to the viewing area. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance for return trips.
