Getting There

Walking
If you are in Taupo town center, start at the Taupo i-SITE Visitor Information Centre located at 30 Tongariro Street. From there, head south on Tongariro Street towards the lakefront. Continue straight until you reach the lakefront path. Follow the path along the lake, enjoying the views. After about 1.5 kilometers, you will reach the end of the lakefront path. At the end, turn right onto Aratiatia Road and walk for approximately 10 minutes. You will see signs directing you to the Aratiatia Rapids tracks. Follow these signs to reach the viewing area.

Begin at the Taupo i-SITE Visitor Information Centre at 30 Tongariro Street. Rent a bike from a local rental shop nearby. Head south on Tongariro Street towards the lakefront and follow the lakeside path, which is well-marked for cyclists.
