If you're traveling by car, start by heading towards Bend, Oregon. From downtown Bend, take US-97 South and drive for about 18 miles. Then take the exit for Route 46 towards La Pine. Follow Route 46 for approximately 12 miles. Turn right onto Cottonwood Road, where you will see signs for Lava River Cave. Continue on Cottonwood Road for about 3 miles until you reach the cave entrance. There is a parking area available.
