From Butare, head to the main bus station located at the center of the city, near the Nyabihu Hotel. Look for a bus heading to Rubavu or Nyungwe National Park. Ensure to confirm with the bus conductor that they stop at Gishwati-Mukura National Park. The journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you reach the nearest bus stop to the park, you may need to walk or hire a local motorcycle taxi (moto) to take you directly to the park entrance.

If you prefer not to take the bus, you can hire a motorcycle taxi directly from any point in Butare. Ask the driver to take you to Gishwati-Mukura National Park. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting your journey. The ride should take around 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. It’s a scenic route, so enjoy the views along the way.
