Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Gisenyi, head northeast towards Avenue du Lac. Walk straight for about 1 kilometer until you reach the junction with the main road, Route Nationale 4 (RN4). Turn left onto RN4 and continue walking for approximately 4 kilometers. You will pass by beautiful views of Lake Kivu on your right. Once you reach the town of Kinigi, look for signs directing you to Volcanoes National Park. The entrance to the Bisoke hike is well-marked and will be on your left.

  • Bicycle

    Rent a bicycle from a local shop in Gisenyi. Start from the center of Gisenyi and ride northeast on Avenue du Lac. After about 1 kilometer, turn left onto Route Nationale 4 (RN4). Continue cycling for about 4 kilometers. Enjoy the scenic views of Lake Kivu as you ride. Once you arrive in Kinigi, follow the signs to Volcanoes National Park where you will find the entrance to the Bisoke hike on your left.

    Hail a motorbike taxi (locally known as a 'moto') from anywhere in Gisenyi. Tell the driver you want to go to the Bisoke hike entrance in Kinigi.
