If you are starting from Rapid City, take I-90 W and merge onto US-16 W towards Keystone. Continue on US-16 W for about 30 miles. As you approach Keystone, you will see signs for Scovel Johnson Tunnel. Turn right onto US-16 Scenic. The tunnel is located a short distance ahead on your right. Be sure to watch for the entrance, as it can be easy to miss!

From Custer State Park, take SD-87 N for approximately 14 miles until you reach US-16 Scenic. Turn left onto US-16 Scenic, and continue for about 10 miles. The Scovel Johnson Tunnel will be on your left as you approach Keystone. Keep an eye out for the signs directing you to the tunnel.

Public transportation options are limited in the Black Hills. However, you can take a shuttle service from Rapid City to Keystone. Once in Keystone, you may need to walk or use a rideshare service such as Uber or Lyft to reach Scovel Johnson Tunnel, which is approximately 2 miles from the shuttle drop-off point. Always check the schedule and availability of the shuttle service in advance.
