If you are in the center of Anuradhapura, start by heading east along Station Road. Walk for about 1 kilometer until you reach the junction with the A9 highway. At this junction, turn left onto the A9 (also known as the Kandy Road). Continue walking along the A9 for approximately 2 kilometers. You will see signs for Nuwara Wewa along the way. As you approach Nuwara Wewa, you will notice a small path on your right leading towards the lake. Follow this path, which will take you directly to the shores of Nuwara Wewa.

Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle in the city center. Start from the Anuradhapura clock tower and cycle east on Station Road. After about 1 kilometer, take a left onto the A9 highway. Cycle along this road for approximately 2 kilometers, keeping an eye out for signs pointing to Nuwara Wewa. As you approach, take the right fork onto the path leading down to the lake. This ride should take you around 15 minutes.

Tuk-Tuk
For a quicker route, you can hire a tuk-tuk from anywhere in Anuradhapura. Simply tell the driver you want to go to Nuwara Wewa. They will likely take you via the A9 highway, covering the distance of about 3 kilometers. The ride should take around 10 minutes depending on traffic. Make sure to agree on the fare before starting your journey.

Public Transport
You can catch a local bus from Anuradhapura to Nuwara Wewa. Board a bus heading east on the A9 highway from the main bus station in Anuradhapura. The fare is very inexpensive, and the journey should take around 20 minutes. Once you arrive, you can ask the bus conductor to let you know when you reach the stop nearest to Nuwara Wewa, and then walk the short distance to the lake.
