Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from Matara Railway Station, exit the station and head west towards the main road (Galle Road). Turn left onto Galle Road and continue walking for about 1.5 kilometers. You will pass several shops and local eateries. Keep walking until you reach a junction with a large roundabout. Take the first exit at the roundabout, and you will see the Shrine of Our Lady of Matara on your right after approximately 300 meters.

    From the Matara Bus Stand, head east on the main road (Galle Road) towards the Matara Fort. After about 500 meters, you will reach a roundabout. Continue straight through the roundabout (second exit), and follow the road for another 1 kilometer. You will eventually see the Shrine of Our Lady of Matara on your right side.

  • Tuk-Tuk

    You can hire a tuk-tuk from any location in Matara. Just tell the driver 'The Shrine of Our Lady of Matara' or show them the address 'WHV2+7QQ, Matara'. The ride should take around 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. The tuk-tuk will drop you off right outside the shrine.

    If you are near the Matara Bus Stand, look for buses heading towards Kotuwegoda. Board any bus that has 'Kotuwegoda' on its route sign. After about 10 minutes, get off at the Kotuwegoda stop. From there, walk about 300 meters towards the main road, and you will find the Shrine of Our Lady of Matara on your left.
