Getting There

  • Walking

    Start from the Polonnaruwa city center, specifically near the Polonnaruwa Archaeological Museum. Head east towards the main road, New Town Road. Continue along this road until you reach the intersection with the Anuradhapura Road (A9). From there, follow the A9 north for approximately 4 km until you reach the turn-off for the Mahiyangane-Dimbulagala-Dalukkane Highway. Turn left onto this highway and walk for about 8 km. You will see signs directing you to Dimbulagala Aranya Senasanaya (Dimbulagala Forest Monastery) as you approach the area. The monastery is located on your right.

  • Bicycle

    Rent a bicycle from a local shop in Polonnaruwa. Start from the Polonnaruwa Archaeological Museum and ride east along New Town Road until you reach the A9 (Anuradhapura Road). Turn left on the A9 and cycle north for about 4 km. When you reach the junction with Mahiyangane-Dimbulagala-Dalukkane Highway, turn left. Continue cycling for approximately 8 km, following the signs to Dimbulagala Aranya Senasanaya (Dimbulagala Forest Monastery) which will be on your right.

  • Tuk-Tuk

    Find a tuk-tuk at a nearby stand in Polonnaruwa, preferably near the Polonnaruwa Archaeological Museum. Inform the driver that you want to go to Dimbulagala Aranya Senasanaya (Dimbulagala Forest Monastery). The driver will take you via New Town Road to the A9 (Anuradhapura Road) and follow this road north for about 4 km. They will then turn left onto the Mahiyangane-Dimbulagala-Dalukkane Highway and continue for approximately 8 km. The monastery will be on your right side.
