If you are in the center of Polonnaruwa, start at the Polonnaruwa Bus Station. Exit the station and walk towards the main road (Nawam Mawatha). Turn right onto Nawam Mawatha and walk straight for about 500 meters. You will pass several shops and local eateries. Continue until you reach the junction at the intersection with the road leading to the Polonnaruwa Archaeological Site. Turn left onto this road and walk for another 300 meters. The Polonnaruwa Sivan Kovil will be on your right, identifiable by its distinct architecture.

Rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Polonnaruwa. Start at the Polonnaruwa Bus Station and head south on Nawam Mawatha. Cycle straight for about 500 meters, passing local shops. At the junction, turn left onto the road leading to the Polonnaruwa Archaeological Site. Continue cycling for approximately 300 meters until you see the Polonnaruwa Sivan Kovil on your right.
