Getting There

• Car

  If you have a rental car or your own vehicle, start from the Udawalawe National Park entrance and head northeast on the A4 highway. Continue for about 40 kilometers until you reach the junction for the A11 road. Turn left onto A11 and keep driving for approximately 60 kilometers. You will pass through several small towns. Once you reach the town of Pachchilapalli, follow the signs toward Chundikulam Bird Sanctuary. The sanctuary entrance is located at GG7J+MV9. Ensure you have a GPS or map application for precise navigation.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Chundikulam Bird Sanctuary using public transportation, first, take a bus from Udawalawe to the nearest major town, which is Hambantota. From there, transfer to a bus heading towards Jaffna, which will pass near Pachchilapalli. Inform the bus driver of your destination, and they will let you know when to disembark. Once you reach Pachchilapalli, you can either walk or hire a three-wheeler (tuk-tuk) to take you to the sanctuary located at GG7J+MV9. Be prepared for a small fee for the tuk-tuk ride, usually around 200-500 LKR depending on the distance.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct option, consider hiring a taxi from Udawalawe National Park to Chundikulam Bird Sanctuary. This method is more expensive, typically ranging from 4,000 to 6,000 LKR for the one-way trip. Arrange for the taxi to pick you up at your location in the park and take you directly to GG7J+MV9. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand or request a taxi that uses a meter.
