Getting There

    From Yala National Park, start by heading north on the A2 highway. Follow the signs for Tissamaharama (Tissa) and continue towards the town. After approximately 30 kilometers, keep an eye out for the junction that leads to the A4 highway. Take the A4 highway towards Higurakgoda. Continue for about 20 kilometers until you reach the town of Higurakgoda. From here, take the road that leads to Nuwaragala. Wasgamuwa National Park is located approximately 15 kilometers from Higurakgoda. Follow the signs to the park entrance. Note that you may encounter traffic or road conditions that could affect travel time.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Wasgamuwa National Park from Yala National Park using public transportation, first, you need to take a bus from Tissamaharama (Tissa) to Higurakgoda. Buses run frequently, and the fare is generally around 100 LKR. The journey takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. Once you arrive at Higurakgoda, you can hire a tuk-tuk or local taxi to take you the remaining 15 kilometers to Wasgamuwa National Park. Be sure to negotiate the fare in advance, which can range from 500 LKR to 1000 LKR depending on the time of day and your negotiation skills.
