Getting There

Walking

If you are in the central area of Polonnaruwa, start by heading east along the main road (New Town Road) towards the Polonnaruwa Archaeological Museum. After about 1 kilometer, you'll reach the museum on your left. From the museum, continue walking straight until you reach the roundabout. Take the first exit to the right onto Parakrama Samudra Road. Keep walking straight for another 1 kilometer, and you will see Parakrama Samudra on your left. It is a large reservoir, so you can't miss it.
Bicycle

If you prefer to bike, you can rent a bicycle from one of the rental shops in the town (near the Polonnaruwa bus stand). Start by cycling east on New Town Road towards the Polonnaruwa Archaeological Museum. After approximately 1 kilometer, turn right at the roundabout onto Parakrama Samudra Road. Continue cycling straight for about 1 kilometer. The reservoir will be on your left. The cycling path is generally flat and easy to navigate.
Tuk-Tuk

To reach Parakrama Samudra by Tuk-Tuk, find a Tuk-Tuk stand near the Polonnaruwa bus station or hail one from the street. Tell the driver that you want to go to Parakrama Samudra. The ride will take about 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. Sit back and enjoy the scenery as the driver takes you along New Town Road and then turns onto Parakrama Samudra Road. You will be dropped off right near the reservoir entrance.
