Train
From Lugano, head to the Lugano train station (Stazione di Lugano). You can walk there from the city center by heading north on Via Nassa, then turning left onto Via Giuseppe Mazzini, which leads directly to the station. Once at the station, purchase a ticket to Varenna-Esino. The train ride takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Upon arrival at Varenna-Esino station, exit the station and walk downhill towards the lake. Follow the signs leading to Varenna's waterfront and continue walking along the lakeside promenade until you reach Contrada della Filanda. The Church of St. John the Baptist is located just a short distance from the waterfront.

Ferry
From the center of Lugano, walk to the Lugano ferry terminal (Imbarcadero di Lugano). You can find it by heading towards the lake on Via Giuseppe Mazzini and turning right onto Lungolago. At the ferry terminal, purchase a ticket for a ferry to Varenna. The ferry ride offers stunning views of Lake Lugano and takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the Varenna ferry terminal, head straight towards the main road (Via Roma), and from there, follow the signs to Contrada della Filanda. The Church of St. John the Baptist is a short walk uphill from the main road.

To travel by bus, make your way to the Lugano bus station (Stazione di Lugano). From the city center, you can walk north on Via Nassa and turn left onto Via Giuseppe Mazzini. At the bus station, look for the bus service heading to Varenna. Purchase a ticket from the kiosk or the bus driver. The bus ride will take about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Once you arrive in Varenna, follow the road down towards the lake, then walk along the waterfront promenade to reach Contrada della Filanda where the Church of St. John the Baptist is located.
