Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start by heading towards the SS36 highway from your current location in Lake Como. Follow the signs for Lecco. Once on SS36, take the exit for Varenna. After exiting, follow the signs directing you to Varenna. The drive should take around 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. As you approach Varenna, you will see beautiful views of the lake. Be aware that parking in Varenna can be limited and may require a fee, so plan accordingly.

• Train

  To reach Varenna by train, find the nearest train station (e.g., in Como or Lecco). Take a train to Varenna-Esino station. The train journey from Como will take approximately 1 hour, while from Lecco it will take about 20 minutes. Once you arrive at Varenna-Esino, you can either walk to the town center, which is about a 20-minute hike downhill, or take a local bus or taxi if you prefer not to walk.

• Ferry

  If you're interested in a scenic route, consider taking a ferry. You can catch a ferry from other towns around Lake Como, such as Bellagio or Menaggio, that connects to Varenna. The ferry ride offers stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The frequency of ferries varies, so check the schedule ahead of time. Please note that there is a ticket cost for the ferry, which can range from €6 to €12 depending on your departure point.
