Car
If you are traveling by car from Down, start by heading northwest on the A24 towards Belfast. Continue on the A24 until you reach the M1 motorway. Merge onto the M1 towards Edinburgh. After approximately 60 miles, take the exit for the A720 City Bypass towards Edinburgh. Follow the signs for Edinburgh and take the exit towards the A7. Continue on the A7 and then turn right onto Craigmillar Castle Rd. The castle will be on your left. Make sure to check for parking availability onsite.

To reach Craigmillar Castle using public transportation, start by taking a train from Down to Edinburgh Waverley Station. From there, take Lothian Bus number 33 towards 'Morningside' or number 21 towards 'Gilmerton'. Get off at the stop for 'Craigmillar Castle Rd'. The castle is a short walk from the bus stop, just follow the signs leading to the castle entrance. The bus fare is approximately £1.70 for a single journey.
