Getting There

  • Car

    From Down, take the A24 road heading north. Continue on the A24 until you reach the M1 motorway. Merge onto the M1 and follow the signs for Belfast. After approximately 20 miles, take the exit toward A1/Edinburgh. Continue on the A1 for about 75 miles until you enter Edinburgh. Once in the city, follow the signs for the city center and then for the Royal Mile. There are parking facilities available in the city center, but be aware that parking may incur fees. Street parking is also available but limited.

    From Down, make your way to the nearest train station, which is likely to be in the town of Downpatrick. Board a train heading to Belfast Central Station. The journey typically takes about 30 minutes. Once at Belfast Central, transfer to a train heading to Edinburgh Waverley Station. This leg of the journey will take approximately 2 hours. Upon arrival at Edinburgh Waverley, exit the station and head east along Princes Street until you reach the junction with the Royal Mile. This walk will take about 10-15 minutes.
