From Durham City Centre, walk to the Durham Bus Station located on Mill Road. Look for the bus service that heads to Barnard Castle. You can take the 'X75' or 'X12' bus, which frequently runs. The journey takes approximately 50 minutes. Request the driver to stop at Bowlees Visitor Centre. The bus stop is situated near the visitor centre.

Start by walking to the nearest train station, Durham Station. Take a train to Darlington, which runs regularly and takes about 20 minutes. Once at Darlington, exit the station and head to the bus stop outside. Catch the bus service towards Barnard Castle (X75 or X12). After about 30 minutes of travel, ask the driver to drop you off at Bowlees Visitor Centre.

Walking and Hiking
For the more adventurous, you can walk to Bowlees Visitor Centre. Start from Durham City Centre, and head west towards the countryside. Follow the River Wear towards the village of Shincliffe. From Shincliffe, navigate through the countryside trails toward Barnard Castle, which is approximately a 12-mile hike. Upon reaching Barnard Castle, look for signage directing you to Bowlees Visitor Centre, which is a short walk from the town centre.
