Treetop Thrills in England's Highest Forest
Go Ape Whinlatter sits at the summit of the Lake District's most elevated forest, offering an unrivalled aerial adventure experience. The site features multiple treetop courses designed for ages four and upwards, combining heart-pounding ziplines, suspended bridges, and high-ropes crossings that wind through the canopy. The journey itself becomes part of the adventure—winding roads lead through the forest to the cabin nestled among the trees, where the landscape unfolds with panoramic views of surrounding fells and lakes. Each course is thoughtfully designed to balance thrills with accessibility, ensuring both children and adults find challenges suited to their confidence levels.Beyond the Ropes: Forest Exploration and Activities
The adventure extends far beyond the aerial courses. Whinlatter Forest Park encompasses nine walking trails ranging from gentle forest strolls to more demanding hikes, including routes that tackle five Wainwrights. The beloved Gruffalo Stick Man Trail brings storybook magic to younger visitors, while the WildPlay Trail offers a natural adventure playground. For those seeking a different perspective, off-road all-terrain Segway experiences allow visitors to explore deeper into the mountain forest landscape. Cycling routes wind through the park, with bike hire available for those without their own equipment. The visitor centre provides insights into the forest's ecology, including live osprey nestcam footage.Seasonal Rhythms and Visitor Experience
Whinlatter operates on a seasonal schedule, with winter months (November through January) limited to weekends and holidays, while the rest of the year opens daily. The forest reveals different character throughout the seasons—spring mornings offer fresh air and fewer crowds, summer brings extended daylight for longer adventures, autumn displays rich woodland colours, and winter transforms the landscape into a quieter, more intimate setting. The site welcomes visitors in all weather conditions; the forest floor and canopy provide natural shelter, and the experience remains magical whether under clear skies or gentle rain. Visitors are advised to embrace the elements and dress appropriately for the season.Facilities and Practical Considerations

Parking is available on-site, though charges apply. The visitor centre serves as an information hub, offering guidance on activities, accessibility support, and forest management. Group experiences are catered for, including children's birthday parties, school educational trips, and stag celebrations, all bookable in advance through the online system.Accessibility and Inclusive Adventure

The team works with individuals to ensure everyone can participate safely and comfortably. Pre-visit contact with the team is encouraged for those with specific requirements or questions. The site operates as an LGBTQ+ friendly and transgender-safe space, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive outdoor adventure. The Journey and the Destination
The experience at Whinlatter begins the moment visitors set out, winding through forest roads that build anticipation. Upon arrival, participants check in at the cabin and receive guidance from cheerful, knowledgeable instructors who ensure safety and confidence throughout the adventure. The courses themselves represent a blend of engineering and natural forest integration, with platforms and crossings positioned to maximize both challenge and the immersive woodland experience.
