If you are starting from the York Minster, head south on Minster Yard toward the intersection with High Petergate. Turn left onto High Petergate and continue straight until you reach the end of the street. At the intersection, turn right onto Stonegate. Continue along Stonegate until you reach the junction with Petergate. Turn left onto Petergate, and then take the first right onto Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma Gate. The gate will be on your right. It is a short walk, approximately 10 minutes.

If you are at the York Railway Station, exit the station and turn right onto Station Road. Follow the road as it curves left into the city, passing the National Railway Museum on your left. Continue straight ahead onto Leeman Road until you reach the barrier of the city walls. Turn right and walk along the walls until you reach the entrance to the city center. Once inside, follow the signs towards the Shambles, then turn left onto Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma Gate. This route will take about 20 minutes.

From the York Railway Station, you can take the Arriva bus number 1 or 5 toward the city center. Get off at the 'St. Leonard's Place' stop. From there, walk towards the Museum Gardens, and then head southwest, crossing the street to reach the entrance of the Shambles. Once at the Shambles, turn left onto Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma Gate. This journey will take approximately 15 minutes total, including waiting time.

If you have rented a bike, start from the Museum Gardens. Head south towards the city walls and follow the path that runs along the walls. Continue until you reach the end of the walls and turn right onto Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma Gate. The ride should take around 10 minutes, depending on traffic.
