Getting There

From Rivera, take Route 5 south towards Tacuarembó, then switch to Route 26 heading east toward Rocha. Once you reach Rocha, continue on Route 9 towards La Paloma. After approximately 40 km on Route 9, take the exit toward Route 15, which will lead you directly to Fuerte San Miguel. The fortress is located at coordinates -33.6893806 latitude and -53.538925 longitude, so you can also use these coordinates in your GPS for precise navigation. Parking is available near the site. Note that fuel costs and tolls may apply depending on your route.

  For those using public transportation, begin your journey by taking a bus from your location in Litoral to Rocha. Companies like COT and COPSA operate buses that frequently connect these areas. Tickets cost approximately 300-400 Uruguayan Pesos (UYU). Once you arrive in Rocha, you can take a local taxi or rideshare service to Fuerte San Miguel, which is about 10 km away from the bus terminal. The taxi fare to the fortress should range between 200-300 UYU. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance to plan your visit accordingly.
