The Solomoni Jewish Museum, nestled in the heart of Berat, Albania, stands as a unique testament to the enduring history of Jewish life in the region. Founded in 2018 by Simon Vrusho, the museum is dedicated to documenting the history of the Jewish community in Berat and Albania, especially during the Holocaust. The museum's collection features documents, photographs, and items that belonged to the Jewish community, which arrived in Berat in the 16th century, fleeing the Spanish Inquisition. Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its religious coexistence, provided a haven for Jews, and the museum tells the story of how Albanians, adhering to their Besa code of honor, saved almost 2,000 Jews from the Holocaust. The museum not only highlights the challenges faced by the Jewish community throughout history but also celebrates their resilience and contributions to Albanian society. The Solomoni Jewish Museum is a must-see destination for those seeking to understand the unique intersection of Albanian and Jewish history.
