Discover more about Bright Angel Point

Bright Angel Point, perched on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, is a destination that immerses visitors in the canyon's grandeur. Named by Major John Wesley Powell in 1869 for its clear, sparkling creek, the point has become a focal point for North Rim exploration. The journey to Bright Angel Point is as rewarding as the destination itself. The paved Bright Angel Point Trail begins near the Grand Canyon Lodge and gradually transitions from the cool, green forest of the Kaibab Plateau to a landscape of pinyon and juniper. This.5-mile round trip trail, while short, can be steep in places and may pose a challenge for those not acclimated to the high elevation. From the point, the views are breathtaking. To the east lies Bright Angel Canyon, while the Transept Canyon stretches to the west. The canyon's depths reveal the Colorado River's hand in shaping this landscape over millions of years. On quiet days, the sound of Roaring Springs, the source of the North Rim's water supply, can be heard echoing from the depths of Bright Angel Canyon. Bright Angel Point has a rich history. The Forest Service recognized its strategic importance for fire control, establishing a fire tower in the 1910s. Later, the National Park Service developed the area, making it the center of the North Rim's tourist infrastructure. Today, it remains a key attraction, offering not only views but also a glimpse into the canyon's geological and human history.
