Getting There

    Start at the Haghpat Monastery complex. Exit the monastery and head southeast towards the main road. Once you reach the road, turn left and walk along the sidewalk. Continue straight for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the village of Sanahin. As you approach Sanahin, look for signs pointing to the Akhtala Fortress. Turn right onto the road leading to Akhtala. Follow this road for approximately 3 kilometers, and you will see the fortress on your left.

    From Haghpat, walk to the nearest bus stop and catch a minibus heading towards Akhtala. The minibuses run frequently. Confirm with the driver that they stop at Akhtala Fortress. The ride takes about 20 minutes. Once you arrive in Akhtala, ask locals for directions to the fortress, which is located a short walk uphill from the center of the town.

    If you have access to a bicycle, start from Haghpat Monastery and head southeast towards the main road. Turn left and cycle along the road towards Sanahin.
