Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From Baku, take a bus from Baku International Bus Terminal to Siyazan. From Siyazan, take a taxi to Altiaghaj National Park. The bus fare is approximately 2-3 AZN. A taxi from Siyazan to the park will cost around 5-10 AZN.

  • Car

    From Baku, drive north on the highway towards Quba. The park is located off the Khizi-Altiaghach road. Parking is available near the park entrance. Expect to pay around 2 AZN for parking.

  • Walking

    If arriving in Altiaghach village by bus or taxi, the park entrance is about 3 km from the village. Walk northeast on the Khizi-Altiaghach road, following the signs for the park. The walk takes approximately 30-40 minutes.

Altiaghaj National Park, established in August 2004, is a protected natural area located between the Khizi and Siyazan regions of Azerbaijan. The park was created to preserve the southeastern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountains, covering 11,035 hectares. It aims to conserve the natural landscape, rehabilitate local flora and fauna, and promote environmental education, tourism, and recreation. The park's landscape is characterized by mountainous terrain and dense forests, with 90% of its area covered in pristine woodlands. The forests are home to diverse tree species, including Caucasian oak, hornbeam, beech, ash, and birch. Shrub species like hawthorn, dog-rose, and blackberry also thrive in the area. The Atachay River, originating from Dubrar Mountain, flows through the park and into the Caspian Sea. Altiaghaj National Park is rich in wildlife, providing habitat for various mammals and birds. Visitors may encounter roe deer, brown bears, wild boars, lynx, raccoons, foxes, squirrels, and wolves. The park is also a haven for birdwatchers, with species like pheasant, partridge, eagle, thrush, goatsucker, and ring-dove inhabiting the area. Ecotourism and hiking are popular activities in Altiaghaj National Park. There are eight ecotourism routes available for visitors to explore the park's natural landscapes. The park also offers opportunities for birdwatching and encountering various species of wild animals.
