Walking
From the center of Punakha, start at the Punakha Dzong. Head southwest along the Punakha-Wangdue Highway (NH 5) toward the suspension bridge (Punakha Dzongkhag). Cross the bridge, and continue straight for approximately 1.5 kilometers until you reach the fork in the road. Take the left fork towards Walakha. Continue walking for another 2 kilometers on this path. You will pass several small shops and local homes. After a short while, you will see signs directing you toward Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang Nunnery. The nunnery is located on a hilltop, so you will need to ascend a series of steps leading to the entrance.

Bicycle
If you have access to a bicycle, you can rent one from a local shop in Punakha. Start at the Punakha Dzong and cycle along the Punakha-Wangdue Highway (NH 5). After about 1.5 kilometers, turn left at the fork towards Walakha. The road is mostly flat with some gentle inclines. Continue cycling for approximately 2 kilometers. Look for signs indicating Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang Nunnery. Once you reach the base of the hill, you will need to lock your bike and walk up the steps to the nunnery.

Hiking
For those who enjoy hiking, start your journey at the Punakha Dzong. Follow the same route as if you were walking, but take your time to enjoy the scenery and local culture along the way. After crossing the suspension bridge, walk for 1.5 kilometers along the Punakha-Wangdue Highway (NH 5). At the fork, take the left path towards Walakha. Continue hiking for approximately 2 kilometers. Look for the signs leading to the nunnery. The hike will include a moderate ascent as you approach the nunnery, offering stunning views of the valley.
