The Catedral Metropolitana de São Sebastião, also known as the Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro, is a unique and imposing structure located in the heart of Rio's city center. His design was inspired by the Mayan pyramids, resulting in a building that is both awe-inspiring and unconventional. The cathedral is dedicated to Saint Sebastian, the patron saint of Rio de Janeiro.The cathedral's dimensions are impressive: it stands 75 meters tall, with an external diameter of 106 meters and an internal diameter of 96 meters. The interior spans 8,000 square meters and can hold up to 20,000 people. Four massive stained-glass windows stretch from floor to ceiling, each one depicting a characteristic of the Church: One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic. These windows fill the interior with colorful light, creating a spiritual atmosphere.The main door features 48 bronze plaques with bas-reliefs depicting themes related to faith. Inside, visitors can appreciate the simplicity and grandeur of the design, which is intended to focus attention on the spiritual experience. The Greek cross at the top, made of transparent material, symbolizes the presence of Christ.In the basement, beneath the main altar, lies the cathedral's crypt.
