Public Transport

From Rio de Janeiro-Galeão International Airport (GIG), take the BRT TransCarioca bus to the Vicente de Carvalho station, then transfer to the Metro Line 2 to Flamengo Station. Alternatively, the 2018 bus line connects the airport to the city center, from where you can take a local bus (like the 309) or the metro to Flamengo. Bus fares range from R$4-R$22. From Santos Dumont Airport, take the VLT (light rail) to Cinelândia station, then transfer to the Metro Line 1 or 2 to Flamengo Station. The VLT fare is R$4.30, and the metro fare is approximately R$5-R$8.
Taxi/Ride-Share

Taxis and ride-sharing services are readily available from both airports. A taxi from Galeão Airport (GIG) to Flamengo typically costs between R$70-R$85 and takes about 19 minutes. From Santos Dumont Airport, the ride is shorter and less expensive. Be sure the taxi meter is running or negotiate a fare beforehand. Uber and other ride-sharing apps also operate in Rio.
Walking

If you are already in the Flamengo neighborhood, simply walk towards the coast. Look for Rua do Catete, which will lead you to the beach. Once you reach the beach, Posto 3 is situated along the shore.

Praia do Flamengo, or Flamengo Beach, is more than just a scenic stretch of sand; it's a testament to Rio de Janeiro's ongoing efforts to blend urban life with natural beauty. Situated in the Flamengo neighborhood, between Catete and Botafogo, this beach boasts a prime location on the edge of Guanabara Bay. Its history is as captivating as its views, once known as 'Praia do Sapateiro' and 'Carioca,' it later adopted the name 'Flamengo' from a historical confusion between the Dutch and Flemish during a 17th-century Dutch invasion attempt. The beach's transformation is remarkable. After a period of pollution, the Carioca River was rerouted, making the waters safe for swimming once again. Today, 'Caribrejo,' a local nickname likening it to the Caribbean, alludes to its revitalized state. The beach is part of the larger Aterro do Flamengo, also known as Brigadier Eduardo Gomes Park, a massive green space created in 1965 from reclaimed land. Designed by the renowned landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx, the park offers gardens and ample space for outdoor activities. Praia do Flamengo provides a unique vantage point, with clear views of iconic landmarks like Sugarloaf Mountain and the Christ the Redeemer statue. Numerous kiosks dot the beach, offering refreshments such as coconut water and cold beer. While it's becoming increasingly popular, it remains less crowded than other South Zone beaches, offering a more relaxed atmosphere.
