Discover more about Pedra do Camelo

Pedra do Camelo, located in the Montanhas de Teresópolis Municipal Nature Park, earns its name from its striking resemblance to a reclining camel. Formerly known as Pedra da Torre, it lost its radio tower in 2019. This popular tourist attraction offers more than just a visual novelty; it provides a rewarding hiking experience with panoramic views. The trail to the 'camel's head' stretches 840 meters, demanding a reasonable level of physical fitness. The path, mostly exposed to the sun, follows the mountain's ridge, marked by a significant elevation gain. Along the way, hikers can spot Pedra da Tartaruga (Turtle Rock) from a unique angle, as well as the Pedra Alpina and Santa Rita mountains. A water source is available along the trail. Reaching the summit requires navigating metal steps in a 'via ferrata' style, with a mandatory rope descent. The Campo Escola de Escalada Alexandre Oliveira is located at the end of the trail. This climbing area is named in honor of a local climber who died in 1998 on Aconcagua. While the final ascent to the very top demands climbing equipment and expertise, the Pedra do Camelo trail offers a memorable experience for those seeking natural beauty and a moderate physical challenge.
