Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Kayanza, head southwest on Avenue du 1er Novembre. Continue straight for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with Avenue de la Paix. Turn left onto Avenue de la Paix and walk for another kilometer, passing local shops and eateries along the way. When you reach the roundabout, take the second exit onto Route Nationale 1 (RN1) heading towards Kanyinya. After approximately 2 kilometers, you will see signs for Ile d'Akagwa (Akagwa Island) on your right. Continue walking for another 500 meters until you reach the entrance to the area where you can find local paths leading to the island.

  • Bicycle

    Start at the main market in Kayanza and take the dirt road south towards the hills. Follow the path for about 2 kilometers until you reach a small bridge. Cross the bridge and continue straight on the bike path, keeping an eye out for signs pointing toward Kanyinya. After about 3 kilometers, you will approach the shores of Ile d'Akagwa. Park your bicycle in a safe location and walk the remaining distance to the island, which is accessible by foot.

  • Public Transport (Bus)

    Locate the bus station in Kayanza, which is situated near the central market. Board a bus heading to Kanyinya; these buses run frequently throughout the day. The journey should take around 30 minutes. Get off at the Kanyinya stop. From there, ask local residents for directions to Ile d'Akagwa (Akagwa Island). It is approximately a 15-minute walk from the bus stop to the island entrance, following the road along the water.
