From Downtown San Diego, the most direct route to Ocean Beach City Beach is via the MTS Bus Route 923. The bus departs from Broadway & 8th Av and arrives at Cable St & Newport Av in Ocean Beach. From there, it's a short 3-minute walk west to the beach. The journey takes approximately 40-49 minutes. The fare is $2-$5.

If you are already in Ocean Beach, for example, near the intersection of Cable Street and Newport Avenue, the beach is a short walk away. Head west on Newport Avenue, and you'll arrive directly at the beach within minutes.
Parking

If driving, several public parking lots are available in Ocean Beach, particularly near the foot of Voltaire Street, the north end of Dog Beach, the foot of Santa Monica Avenue, and the foot of Newport Avenue near the pier. Street parking is also available in the surrounding residential neighborhoods. Parking rates vary, with some paid lots charging hourly rates starting at $5. Ocean Beach City Beach embodies the spirit of its namesake neighborhood: laid-back, free-spirited, and a little bit funky. Located where the San Diego River meets the Pacific Ocean, this expansive beach provides ample space for sunbathing, swimming, surfing, and simply soaking in the SoCal atmosphere. The beach stretches for about a mile, broken up by rock jetties, with a dedicated volleyball area near the north end. The waves here are popular with surfers of all skill levels, and the beach is also ideal for families with children. At the north end of the beach lies Dog Beach, one of the first official leash-free beaches in the United States, where canines can frolic in the sand and surf to their hearts' content.
