If you're traveling by car, start by heading towards Santa Marta city. From the city center, take the road towards the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains. Follow the signs for Minca, which will lead you to the main road (Ruta 90). Continue on this road for approximately 30 km, passing through small towns and enjoying the scenery. Keep an eye out for signs directing you to Río Guachaca. As you approach, you'll start to see signs for 'Guachaca,' indicating you are near. Turn onto the dirt road that leads to Río Guachaca, which should be well-marked. The last stretch might require a 4x4 vehicle, especially after rain, so be prepared for bumpy roads.

Public Transportation
To reach Río Guachaca via public transportation, first, take a bus from Santa Marta to Minca. Buses leave frequently from the main terminal in Santa Marta, and the fare is usually around 8,000 COP. Once you arrive in Minca, you can hire a local taxi or a motorcycle taxi to take you to Río Guachaca. The taxi ride should cost approximately 15,000 to 20,000 COP. Be sure to negotiate the price before getting in. The taxi will take you along the dirt road leading to the river which can be a bit rough, so expect a bumpy ride.

If you have access to a car but prefer to park nearby, drive to Minca and park in a safe area. From there, you can take a local hike or a short taxi ride to Río Guachaca. The hike can take about 30-45 minutes depending on your pace, and it is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
