Since 1967, this heritage railroad has been delighting visitors with its vintage steam locomotives and open-air cars. The 2 ft (610 mm) narrow-gauge railway follows a revitalized section of the original Midland Terminal Railway and Florence and Cripple Creek Railroad, taking passengers on a four-mile round trip. The 45-minute ride departs from the 1894 depot and gift shop at the head of Bennett Avenue in Cripple Creek. As the train chugs along, passengers are treated to a narrated history of the region, pointing out historic mines, the old Midland Terminal Wye, and a reconstructed trestle. The journey culminates near the deserted mining camp of Anaconda before returning to Cripple Creek. The railroad's locomotives are a sight to behold. The collection includes Engine #1, a 1902 0-4-4-0 Orenstein & Koppel Mallet locomotive, Engine #2, a 1936 0-4-0 Henschel, and Engine #3, a 1927 0-4-0 PT H. K. Porter tank. The open-air cars provide unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape, but dressing for the weather is recommended.
