Since 1967, this heritage railroad has been delighting visitors with its vintage steam locomotives and open-air cars. The 45-minute, four-mile round trip departs from the historic 1894 Cripple Creek Midland Depot, taking passengers along a revitalized section of the original Midland Terminal Railway. The train winds south from Cripple Creek, passing the old Midland Terminal Wye and crossing a reconstructed trestle. Along the way, you'll see numerous historic mines and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The narrated tour shares the rich history of the Cripple Creek and Victor mining district, once a booming center with a population of over 50,000. The journey culminates near the deserted mining camp of Anaconda before returning to Cripple Creek. The railway's collection includes several coal-fired, narrow-gauge steam locomotives, including Engine #1, an 0-4-4-0 Orenstein & Koppel Mallet locomotive built in 1902, and Engine #2, a 0-4-0 Henschel built in 1936. The depot also houses a gift shop with a variety of souvenirs, books, and Thomas the Tank Engine items.
