Discover more about Fairfield Museum & History Center

The Fairfield Museum & History Center, established in 2007 by the Fairfield Historical Society, is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich history, art, and humanities of Fairfield, Connecticut, and its surrounding communities. The museum's mission is to inspire imagination, stimulate thought, and transform society by connecting people with the area's complex history. The 13,000-square-foot facility features a variety of exhibition galleries that host rotating art, culture, and history exhibitions. Visitors can explore the ongoing exhibition, "Creating Community: Exploring 375 Years of Our Past," which showcases the region's history from its founding in 1639 to the present day. Other past exhibitions have included topics such as immigration, the coast, and the Culper Ring spies. The museum also includes a special collection research library and reading room, an education classroom, and a museum shop. Beyond the main building, the Museum Commons features three historic buildings open to the public during the summer: the Sun Tavern (c. 1780), the Victorian Barn (1888), and the Victorian Cottage (1888). These buildings offer interactive displays and exhibits that bring history to life. The museum also hosts a variety of programs and events throughout the year, including walking tours, summer camps, jazz concerts, and the Holiday Express Train Show.
