Discover more about Little Island

Little Island, located at Pier 55 in Hudson River Park, is a unique and innovative public park that seems to float on the Hudson River. Opened in May 2021, this 2.4-acre park is built on what was once Pier 54, revitalizing a space with a rich maritime history. The pier served as a departure and arrival point for transatlantic voyages, including the RMS Carpathia, which brought Titanic survivors to safety in 1912. Damaged beyond repair by Hurricane Sandy in 2012, the pier was reimagined by Barry Diller in partnership with the Hudson River Park Trust. Designed by Heatherwick Studio, the park's structure consists of 132 concrete columns, each shaped like a tulip and varying in height to create a rolling landscape. These 'tulips' support a lush garden with over 350 species of flowers, trees, and shrubs, offering a vibrant, seasonal display. Little Island features winding pathways that invite exploration, leading to stunning views of the Manhattan skyline, the Hudson River, and other parts of Hudson River Park. The park also includes a 687-seat amphitheater, The Amph, which hosts a variety of performances, some free and others ticketed. There's also an intimate stage and lawn space for smaller events. Visitors can enjoy food and beverages from vendors within the park, though hours may vary seasonally. The park is committed to being a safe, enjoyable, and beautiful space, with rules prohibiting certain activities such as bringing outside alcohol, smoking, and riding bicycles. Little Island is open year-round, with hours varying by season.
