    The Vessel, located in the heart of Hudson Yards, is a striking, modern landmark designed by Thomas Heatherwick. This 150-foot-tall structure is composed of 154 interconnected flights of stairs, nearly 2,500 steps, and 80 landings, offering visitors a unique, three-dimensional urban experience. Resembling a honeycomb or a basket, the Vessel provides panoramic views of the Hudson River and the surrounding Manhattan skyline. The structure was intended to be a unique public space, offering high vantage points to appreciate the city. Unveiled in 2016 and opened to the public in March 2019, the Vessel quickly became a popular attraction. The structure does not have an official name and was meant to be temporarily called “Vessel” until a suitable name had been found. The components were fabricated in Italy and shipped to the United States, with construction beginning in April 2017. While the Vessel has faced closures, it remains an iconic symbol of Hudson Yards, representing a feat of engineering and a unique approach to public art.
