From Avarua, the Cook's Island Bus offers clockwise and anti-clockwise routes that circle the island. Catch either bus from Cook's Corner in Avarua. The bus will stop anywhere along the main road, Ara Tapu, near Nikao Cottages. A single ride costs NZ$5. A day pass is available for NZ$16.

A taxi from Avarua to Nikao Cottages will cost approximately NZ$15. Confirm the fare with the driver before starting your journey.

From Avarua, follow the main road, Ara Tapu, west towards Nikao. Nikao Cottages is located on the beachfront along the main road. Parking is available off-street. Be aware that Cook Islanders drive on the left-hand side of the road. While parking is generally hassle-free, avoid leaving valuables in your car. There are 16 parking spots in Avarua.
