    From San José, take the Inter-American Highway (Route 2) south towards Pérez Zeledón. The park entrance is located 76.5 kilometers south of San José, across from Chespiritos Restaurant #1 in Ojo de Agua de Dota. The drive takes approximately 2 hours. Parking is available at the park.

  • Public Transport

    From San José, take a bus to San Isidro del General and ask the driver to drop you off in front of the national park, across from Chespiritos 1. Alternatively, take a bus to Los Santos and then a taxi to the park. Another option is to take a bus from San José to Santa María, then take a taxi or local shuttle to the park entrance, which is 2 km away. Bus fares from San José to nearby towns range from $2-$17. A taxi from Los Santos to the park will cost extra.

Parque Nacional Los Quetzales, established in 2006, spans over 5,000 hectares (12,000 acres) of rainforest, cloud forest, and premontane forest along the Cordillera de Talamanca's slopes. The park's elevation ranges from 1,240 to 3,190 meters (4,000 to 10,000 feet), creating a cool climate with temperatures between 5°C and 14°C (mid-50s to low 80s F) and high rainfall. The park is named after the resplendent quetzal, a majestic bird with vibrant green and red plumage, which thrives in the region's rainforests. March to June is the best time to spot the quetzal during its nesting season. However, the park is home to over 200 other bird species, including trogons and hummingbirds. Visitors can explore the park's unique cloud forest ecosystem via maintained trails. The Sendero Zeledonia includes an accessible 400-meter paved section near the ranger station. The Ojo de Agua Trail is approximately 2 kilometers and takes about 2 hours to complete, offering opportunities to observe local flora and fauna.
