From most hotels in Monteverde, the waterfall can be reached by taxi or by walking. If walking from Santa Elena, head east towards Monteverde Road. The walk is approximately 5km and will take about 1 hour. Follow the road, keeping an eye out for signs to Catarata Los Murciélagos. The entrance is clearly marked from the road. There are some steep hills.

The public bus from Santa Elena to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve stops along the road to Cerro Plano. From the bus stop, it is still necessary to walk or take a taxi to the waterfall entrance. Bus fare is approximately $1.20.
