Discover more about Vchynice - Tetov

Vchynice-Tetov is more than just a place; it's a journey through time and nature. Founded in the late 18th century as a pair of logging settlements, Einbauern and Brennten, it was officially named Vchynice-Tetov in honor of Filip Kinský, the owner of the estate. The village thrived on the region's abundant timber resources, with woodcutters shaping the landscape and the local economy. Later, the Schwarzenberg family acquired the estate and constructed the Vchynice-Tetov Canal between 1799 and 1801. This remarkable feat of engineering, designed by Josef Rosenauer, bypassed an unnavigable section of the Vydra River, enabling the transportation of timber to Prague. The canal, stretching over 13.6 kilometers, stands as a testament to human ingenuity and the importance of forestry in the region's past. While the settlement itself is largely gone, with its lands divided between the municipalities of Srní and Modrava, its legacy lives on through the surrounding landscape. Today, Vchynice-Tetov is a popular destination for hikers and cyclists, drawn to the pristine beauty of the Šumava National Park. The Vchynice-Tetov Canal is now a popular hiking trail. The area offers countless trails that wind through unspoiled landscapes, past crystal-clear streams and expansive peat bogs.
