    From Lewes, DE, head north on DE-1 N/Coastal Hwy. Turn left onto Broadkill Rd. Continue onto S Bayshore Dr, which leads directly to Beach Plum Island Nature Preserve. Parking is available at the southern end of S Bayshore Drive. Parking fees are subject to the current Delaware State Parks fee.

Beach Plum Island Nature Preserve, a hidden gem on Delaware's coastline, offers a unique opportunity to experience the raw beauty of an undeveloped barrier island. Located near Lewes, this nature preserve is a sanctuary of untouched beaches, rolling dunes, and thriving marshlands. Established to protect the barrier spit and its natural inhabitants, the preserve is home to diverse plant and animal life. The preserve offers a mile-long pedestrian trail that provides access to bank fishing and crabbing along the Broadkill River. Beach Plum Island is open to the public from March 1st to December 31st. During the winter months, the entrance road is closed to vehicles. While offering drive-on access with a valid surf fishing permit, certain areas are restricted to protect nesting birds and migratory shorebirds.
