Travel Guide to Marktplatz Lübeck

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting from Lübeck's main train station (Lübeck Hauptbahnhof), exit the station and head south on Randtstraße. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Breite Straße. Turn right onto Breite Straße and follow it until you reach the iconic Holstentor, which will be on your left. From the Holstentor, continue straight onto Mühlendamm, then turn left onto Königstraße. Keep walking until you reach the market square (Marktplatz Lübeck) straight ahead. The square is located in the heart of the Old Town and is surrounded by beautiful historic buildings.

• Walking

  If you are at St. Mary's Church (Marienkirche), exit the church and head southwest on Breite Straße. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Marktstraße. At the intersection, turn left onto Marktstraße, and you will see Marktplatz Lübeck directly ahead. The square is vibrant and often hosts local events and markets, so be sure to explore the area once you arrive.

• Bus

  If you are near the Lübeck Museum of Theatre Puppets (Theaterfigurenmuseum), take bus line 3 or 4 from the nearest bus stop (Theaterplatz). Ride for three stops and get off at 'Markt' bus stop. From there, Marktplatz Lübeck is just a short walk away. Head toward the large square where you will find various shops, cafes, and the beautiful architecture of Lübeck's historic buildings.

• Walking

  From the Lübeck City Hall (Rathaus Lübeck), exit the building and walk east on Breite Straße. After a few minutes, you will reach the intersection with Marktstraße. Turn right onto Marktstraße, and continue straight until you reach Marktplatz Lübeck, which is known for its lively atmosphere and historical significance. You will notice the famous buildings surrounding the square as you approach.
