From Egilsstaðir, head northwest on Route 1 (the Ring Road) for approximately 50 km. Take a right onto Route 931 towards Herðubreiðarlindir. Follow Route 931 for about 30 km until you reach the junction with Route 862. Turn left onto Route 862 and continue for 15 km until you arrive at Herðubreið. The road may be gravel and can be rough, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended.
