Getting There

  • Car

    From Reykjavík, take Route 1 (Ring Road) heading north. After approximately 30 km, take the exit onto Route 36 towards Þingvellir National Park. Follow Route 36 for about 43 km until you reach the park entrance. There is a parking fee of around 1,000 ISK per vehicle which you will pay at the entrance. Once inside the park, drive towards the Öxarárfoss parking area, which is well-signposted. The falls are a short walk from the parking area.

    Take a bus from Reykjavík's main bus terminal (BSÍ) to Þingvellir National Park. The bus service is operated by Strætó, and the journey takes about 50-60 minutes. Check Strætó's website for the latest schedule and ticket prices, which are generally around 1,500 ISK for a one-way trip. Once you arrive at the park, follow the signs to Öxarárfoss, which is about a 20-minute walk from the bus stop.
