From Vik, head east on Route 1 (the Ring Road) towards Kirkjubæjarklaustur. After approximately 15 km, look for a sign indicating the Markarfljótsgljúfur Canyon trailhead. You will need to walk along the road for about 2 km until you reach the trailhead. The trailhead is marked and accessible; you will see a parking area where vehicles can park, but since you are walking, just follow the signs. The hike to the canyon itself will take approximately 1-2 hours, depending on your speed and the trail conditions. Make sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring water.

Take a local bus from Vik to Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Buses may not run frequently, so check the local schedule for times. Once you arrive in Kirkjubæjarklaustur, you can ask locals for directions to the Markarfljótsgljúfur Canyon trailhead, which is about a 2 km walk from the bus stop. Follow the road signs towards the canyon, as the trailhead is clearly marked. This option may take longer due to the bus schedule, so plan accordingly.
