Car
If you are driving, take Route 1 (the Ring Road) and head east from Reykjavik. Continue on Route 1 for approximately 100 km until you reach the junction with Route 36. Turn left onto Route 36 and continue for about 15 km. Then, take a right turn onto Route 32 and follow it for another 25 km. Look for signs directing you to Stöng. The longhouse is located near the Þjórsárdalur valley, and there is usually signage to help you find the site. Be sure to park in the designated parking area.

To visit Stöng using public transportation, first take a bus from Reykjavik to Hella. You can catch a bus operated by Strætó (bus number 1 or 2) from the main bus terminal in Reykjavik. The journey takes approximately 1.5 hours. Once in Hella, transfer to a local bus heading towards Þjórsárdalur – check the local bus schedule as these services may not run frequently. After getting off the bus, you may need to walk about 2 km to reach the Stöng site. Ensure to check the bus schedules in advance, and be prepared for possible waiting times.
